Lakeland – William “Bill” Rund, 83, went home to be with The Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2018, after a long battle with COPD. Bill was born March 13, 1934, in Urbana, Illinois to Cornelius and Rosalia (Pflum). After graduating from Urbana High he went to Illinois Business College where he earned a Certificate in Accounting. He worked for Illinois Power Company in Decatur, Illinois, where he retired in 1994, as a Senior Computing Operator.
He married his wife, Judith on September 1974. They both loved to travel, managing to visit all 50 states. His wife remembers that on their first date they made plans to Hawaii.
Bill was a handyman, doing all the repairs to the house himself. Needing some other activity, he started volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Decatur, rehabbing and building homes. His proudest accomplishment happened in 1994. He and Judy, along with 1400 people from 40 states and 10 foreign countries built 30 homes from scratch in a week during a Blitz Build in Georgia.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, a sister, Betty Bangasser (Donald), 6 nieces and nephews; 6 great nieces and nephews and cousins scattered around the world.
Bill attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakeland, where he was an usher and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakeland with entombment to follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held at the church following the entombment.
