Ryan Wesley Porter, a proud veteran of the Army, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, from a heart attack.

The son of Mark David Porter and Nancy Adele Hunka(Hall), Ryan grew up in Lakeland, Florida. He was born August 31, 1971, in Winter Haven, Florida, and graduated from Lakeland High School and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

In 1998, Ryan enlisted in the Army. He valued his time in the Army and attained the rank of CW3. As part of his Army service, he worked as a criminal investigator in Fort Riley, Kansas, and Grafenwoehr, Germany, and then worked in the Protective Services Battalion in the Washington, D.C. area, Mons, Belgium, and Stuttgart, Germany. He worked at Fort Bliss, Texas for a year as the Team Chief/Personal Security Officer in the Criminal Investigation Detachment. Ryan spent a year and a half in U.S. Army, U.S. Forces-Iraq, XVIII Airborne Corps in Baghdad, Iraq, as Special Agent in Charge (OIC) / Personal Security Officer (PSO). His Army service concluded as an Operations Officer in Charge at U.S. Central Command, Protective Services Detachment in St. Petersburg/Tampa area in 2016. Ryan was honored with the Bronze Star in 2011 for his service with U.S. Army, U.S. Forces-Iraq, XVIII Airborne Corps.

Ryan earned his pilot's license when he was 16 years old and spent his Army retirement as a private pilot in Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida, and Naples, Florida. Recently, Ryan was a chief private pilot for Allen Concrete and Masonry and resided in Naples, Florida.

Ryan is survived by his five children Joseph, Samuel, Taylor, Mason, and Liam, father, Mark, mother, Nancy, sister, Lindsay as well as stepmother, Susan, and stepfather, Larry. Ryan's loved ones will remember his playful, charismatic personality and love for his family.

A service honoring the life of Ryan Porter will be held Monday, June 27, 2022, at 3:30pm, with visitation starting at 2:30pm at Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 Bartow Rd., Lakeland, FL, 33801.
