Rosalee Ann McGhee

December 3, 1938 ~ September 27, 2018 (age 79)

Rosalee Ann McGhee, 79, of Lakeland, Fl, formerly Kennett, MO, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018. She was born in Poughkeepsie, AR on December 3, 1938 to Lela Damona (Runsick) Tuggle and Linzie Lee Tuggle. She was an only child. Prior to school age, her family moved to Kennett, MO. At 15 yrs. of age, while working as a car hop at McGhee’s Drive In, a popular place for teenagers to hang out and eat burgers, fries, etc., she met her future husband. Joe Reed McGhee was the owner and one of his younger brothers, Tommy, was a cook. She was united in marriage to Thomas L. McGhee on September 28, 1954.

God blessed Tom and Rosie with 7 children, Denise Ann (Bob) Youngclaus, Thomas Leroy McGhee, Jr, Deborah Jo Francis, Timothy Clark McGhee, Donna Lynn (John) Lund, Cynthia Damaris (Nathan) Duncan, and Deanna Lee (Greg) Sunday. Rosie was a wonderful and loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was also a mother to 2 step sons, Thomas Mitchell McGhee and the late Michael Miles McGhee.

Rosie was preceded in death by her father and mother. Survivors include 1 step son, 7 children, 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Granny”.

Tom and Rosie enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage on this earth. The first 36 years were spent in Kennett, MO, where they raised their family. In 1989, they relocated to the Winter Haven/Lakeland, Florida area. Throughout these 64 years, there were very few times that they were separated for more than a short while.

Mom was such a great helpmate to Dad, not only in raising their large family together, but also in the workplace. They owned McGhee Pharmacy, Kennett, MO and McGhee Aviation in Lakeland, FL. Mom worked side by side Dad in these ventures through many challenges, thick and thin.

Mom is rejoicing in Heaven with her Momma, whom she missed dearly. She was an amazing woman who did so much for so many. She always made birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas, a special time to be celebrated.

A time for a family gathering to celebrate her life is pending.

The family requests Memorial contributions, in Rosalee McGhee’s name, made to the Alzheimer’s Association. For your convenience, here is the Alzheimer Association’s link, https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/.
