Robert J Groover

Robert Jay Groover went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the age of 83.

Robert was born in Miami, Florida on July 28, 1940 to R.J and Willa Mae Groover. Robert and his brother, Richard were raised in South Miami. Robert graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1958. He went on to attend both Miami Dade Junior College and Florida International University. Robert worked for Baptist Hospital in Miami for 40 years. He joined Baptist two months after the hospital opened in 1960. He worked in many departments over the years. In his last 30 years with Baptist Hospital he served as the Community Health Education Coordinator. When he and Rosemary moved to Lakeland in 2000, he took a little time off and then went to work for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. He was the coordinator for the CAP (Citizens Assisted Patrol) Program for many years. He supervised over 3000 volunteers. This past year, he had the privilege of moving his office to Bonnet Springs Park and getting a CAP program started there as well.

Robert’s parents, R.J. and Willa Mae, his brother, Richard, and his grandson, Timothy, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of 38 years, his children, Shari, Terri (Chuck), Kelli (Randy), Robert, Michael, Mark (Vicky) and Suzanne (Robert), his 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Robert and his family were always active in their church, First Baptist Church of South Miami. Over the years, he served in many positions in the church. One of his passions was always singing in the choir. This passion for serving the Lord and singing continued as they moved to Riverside Baptist Church in Miami. After moving to Lakeland and joining Scott Lake Baptist Church, he continued to serve and enjoy his time spent in the choir. He and Rosemary also thoroughly enjoyed their many senior trips and this special time with their friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Scott Lake Baptist Church 5811 Scott Lake Road, Lakeland, Florida 33813, service will follow at 11 AM.
