Mitsuko Boartfield

Mitsuko Saito Boartfield, 90, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Tampa. Mitsuko or Micki as she was known is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ecker (Gary Koepfer) of Tampa, Fla. and sister-in-law, Kinuyo Sakazume of Tokyo, Japan,
She will be missed by her grandchildren: Stephanie (Rachelle) Ecker of Sebastian, Fla.; Stacie Ecker (Derek Stone) of Mason, Mich., Alexander Ecker II of Gaylord, Mich. Also survived by great- grandsons: Xander Stone and Pollux Ecker and nephews: Masaharu (Reiko) Saito of Saitama, Japan and Tatsuya Sakazume.
Mitsuko enjoyed being a homemaker, and she worked as a food server for the Hillsborough County Schools and the cafeteria at the Tampa International Airport.
She appreciated being a wife and a mother of two adopted children, and she loved the adventure of moving to the U.S. when she married a military man.
She was an artist who enjoyed Japanese Kurumi Kits creating two-dimensional art. Mitsuko was skilled at sewing, crocheting, knitting and making a beautiful home wherever she lived. The past five years, she enjoyed Tai Chi, bingo, and pokino at both her assisted living residences.
Mitsuko was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Tech Sgt. William Roy Boartfield, USAF (ret) of Tampa, Fla.; her parents: Masai (Haru) Saito of Kawagoe, Japan; brothers: Hidekichi (Harue) Saito of Saitama, Japan and Sadao Sakazume of Tokyo, Japan; grandson, Alexander Ecker of Tampa, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Persephone Stone of Mason, Mich., and her beloved son, George Lee Boartfield of Tampa, Fla.
Her family and friends will forever remember her beauty, her spirit of perseverance, her strength of will, her personal courage, and her love for her family and friends. She lived her life with honor, grace, dignity, and loyalty.
Her family will hold a Memorial gathering at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, July 4 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
She will join her husband following a graveside service at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. on Friday, July 13 at 2:30 p.m.
