LAKELAND – Marshall Edward Ison, 94, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 as a result of heart and respiratory failure.
He was born on March 2, 1927 in Brooks, Georgia. Son of Grady and Addie Mae Ison. He grew up in Brooks, Georgia on a farm graduating from Spalding County High School. He joined the Navy during WW II in June 1944 when he was 17 years old. He was on Rocket ship USS LSM(R) 191 and was in the invasion of Okinawa. He got out of the Navy June 1946 as a 3rd Class Petty officer.
He hired out with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1951. In later years it merged with Seaboard Coast Line, then to CSX Railroad. He retired after 35 years. For over 20 years he worked the Auburndale and Webster flea markets. He was a charter member of Victory Assembly of God church. He enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, muscadine and scuppernong grapes, and a variety of fruit trees.
Mr. Ison was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Addie Mae Ison, sisters Mildred Hoard and Jean Walker, and brother W.G. Ison. He is survived by his wife Janie of 67 years, daughter Rita Hall (Terry), sons Gerald and Dale (Cindy), 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Vivian Phillips and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ison’s family will receive friends April 17th, 2021 with visitation from 10AM – 11AM and service 11AM – 12PM at Lakeland Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
