Kenneth Cogdill

Kenneth “Ken” Cogdill, a loving Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 3, 2023, at the age of 78.

He was born January 6, 1945, in Asheville, NC to Steven and Julie Cogdill. Ken married his high school sweetheart, Mary Hunt, and together they had a son, Kenneth Fred Cogdill. He had a successful career in trucking and pallets. He went to Southwestern Seminary and Fruitland Bible Institute. Ken used his education to lead youth ministries for many years. His work with the church and youth continued throughout his life in Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and finally in Florida. Ken found a home at Bethel Baptist in Lakeland, Florida, where he played drums in the orchestra. He also taught Sunday school, continuing to guide the youth toward a relationship with Christ. Ken and Mary had 59 wonderful years of marriage. They devoted their lives to the Lord, their family, and friends.

Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Cogdill; son Fred (Melissa) Cogdill; grandchildren, Joshua (Nikki) Cogdill, Chelsea Allen, Garrett Lightsey, Jillian McGowan, Stephanie Prince, Tiffany (James) Gaumond, Destiny Prince, Autumn Beach, and Ansley Beach; great grandchildren, Olivia Ruopoli, Ava Gaumond, Kenny Harp, Adison Ruiz, Analeigh Ruiz, and Journee Mae Beach; brother, Wayne (Mae) Cogdill; sisters, Texia (Arnold) Hunt and Teresa (Ron) Johnson; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Julie Cogdill; sisters, Bobby (Crawford) Chandley and Maxine (Paul) Treadway.

Services will be held at Lakeland Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 2125 S. Bartow Rd, Lakeland, FL, on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Viewing from 10 AM -11 AM and the service will be officiated by Pastor Mark Nelson at 11 AM. There will be a celebration luncheon following the service at Crossroads Community Church, 2583 Thornhill Rd, Auburndale, FL 33823. For anyone unable to attend, the service will be available for viewing online.
