Karen Reecer

September 5, 1940 ~ January 31, 2018 (age 77) 77 Years Old
Karen J. Reecer, 77, of Lakeland, FL, received her angel wings on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
Born September 5, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Margaret Lingham. She is predeceased by her son, John C. Steinhauer and sister, Kay Wilder.

She is survived by her daughter, Carey Steinhauer Cyr (Kyle), two beautiful granddaughters, Candace Mumford (Nick), Christen Harmon (Chad), and seven great grandchildren: Johnny, Peyton, Jaxon, Kent, Gavin, Brooke, and Aubrey, whom she loved and adored.

Karen was a vibrant, strong-willed woman with a unique spark that captivated everyone she met. She was not one to take no for an answer and always lived life to its fullest. She was a graduate of Druid Hills High School and went on to study at the University of Georgia where she was a majorette. In 1970, she began her Real Estate career in Coral Springs, FL then later moved to Lakeland, FL to manage two title companies. She began the next chapter of her life in 1988 in Ocala, FL where she bred, raised, and showed Reecer Quarter Horses. Shortly after moving, she opened her own real estate firm, Reecer Reality. In 1999, she relocated to Clearwater, FL where she continued her real estate business and enjoyed line dancing, tennis, and roller blading. Later, she became famous at her granddaughters’ school, being known as the “Roller Blading Grammy”. In 2009, Karen decided to move back to Lakeland to be closer to her daughter, granddaughters, and her first great grandson. Even after being named a Great Grammy, Karen continued her real estate career at Keller Williams with her most recent closing being held in December of 2017. With her legacy, she taught her family and friends to always be open to new experiences, love with all they have, and to seize the moment! Karen is loved and will be greatly missed by all. Rest in peace, our Queen.

Karen’s celebration of life will be conducted from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Lakeland Funeral Homes and Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 pm until 3:15 pm, and the service will follow at 3:30 pm. Karen requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
