Joyce W. Houser

Carolyn Joyce Houser (née Whitten) passed away peacefully, losing her long battle with COPD, on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 85.

Joyce was born on April 8, 1934 in Lakeland, to her parents, Victoria and Benjamin Whitten. She grew up in Lakeland with a large family consisting of 4 sisters (Edith, Evelyn, Hazel, and Bette) and 2 brothers (Charles and Benjamin).

Joyce was blessed with a long career in food service at various locations in the area, highlighted by owning her own restaurant (Bac o’ the Mall). In the twilight of her working career she became a CFSM and managed the dietary department at Assisted Living Facilities around Lakeland.

Ms. Houser is survived by her children, Walter Adams (Donna), Vicki Pate (Gary), and Tim Adams (Cindy), 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. She will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
At Joyce’s request there will be no formal ceremony, but she asked everyone to celebrate her memory in their own special way.
