John W. Purvis

John Winford Purvis Sr., went home to be with his lord on July 6, 2022 surrounded by loving family. He was born November 27, 1934 to James D. Purvis and Dora Cowart Purvis in Highlands City Florida.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his loving wife Judy E. Purvis, sisters Shirley L Purvis, Vivian Purvis Griffin, brothers George E. Purvis, and David R. Purvis, Son Douglas E. Purvis, Daughter Dee Purvis Newsome.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann Browder Purvis; sons John’s Purvis Jr.(Martha); daughters Valerie L. Bosque (Joe), Kimberly M. Robinson (Spencer); brothers Emmett E. Purvis, James D. Purvis, Charles T. Purvis (Janine); sister Deborah Ann Burke; three adult step-children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was a lifelong Deer Hunter, golfer and avid fisherman. After graduating from Bartow Summerlin Institute in 1953 he spent three years in the US Army. John then worked 26 years as personnel supervisor for Cargill Inc, during his tenure at Cargill, he also spent 14 yrs as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Polk and Hardee offices. After retiring in 1993 he spent 10 years as manager of a Badcock Furniture store in NC and10 yrs as sales associate at Sears in Lakeland.
Services will be at Ardella Baptist Church, 709 W. Pipkin Rd, Lakeland, FL 33813, on Saturday July 30th, 2022. Visitation from 10:30-11:00, service at 11:00 AM.
