WINTER HAVEN - Joan Burr, 88, of Winter Haven, FL, was escorted by angels to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 22, 2018. Joan was born on November 23, 1929, in Chesterfield, S.C. Predeceased by her husband of 70 years, James Mayo Blackburn, her parents, a sister and a brother, Joan is survived by her loving son, James Rodney Blackburn (Joyce), her dedicated daughter, Sharon Blackburn, beloved grandchildren, Kristin, Chad and Ashley, as well as six great grandchildren, Summer, Chase, Erin, Jameson, Breanna and Deklan - who broght her many hours of laughter and joy. Others who will celebrate Joan's 'homegoing' are her two brothers, Vernon Landon Burr (Dean) and Marvin R. Burr (Gladys) as well as two sisters-in-law, Rena Blackburn and Edna Blackburn, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Joan moved to Eagle Lake at 10 years of age and graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1947. She and her family moved from FL in 1951 to Hartford, CT where she began work for the next 17 years as a Dark Room Technician for the largest group of Radiologists at Hartford Hospital. In 1967, Joan and her family realized their dream and moved to Scottsville, VA, where they purchased and farmed a 1,100 acre cattle ranch. In 1988, Joan and her husband retired back to Florida so as to be closer to their extended families. Joan was well known for her strong, unshakeable faith, her thoughtful nature and her want and desire to help others. She was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church, Winter Haven, FL.

Visitation will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 2140 Crystal Beach Road, Winter Haven, FL, on Monday, February 26, 2018, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. There will be a graveside service at Lakeside Memorial Park, Winter Haven, FL, on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Compassionate Care Hospice, Lakeland, FL. Our family wishes to thank everyone at Compassionate Care Hospice who were directly or indirectly involved in the loving care provided these past several weeks to our Mother.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound....Was blind but now I see! Hallelujah and Amen.
