Janie M Ison

Janie Mae Ison, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Mrs. Ison was born September 25, 1934 in Greenville, South Carolina. Daughter of Ernest Otto and Mary Annie Tanksley. She grew up in Brooks, Georgia on a farm and graduated from Spalding County High School. She married Marshall E. Ison on August 14, 1953 and moved to Lakeland.

She worked at Ross of Florida for several years, and for over 20 years, Janie and Marshall worked together at the Auburndale and Webster Flea Markets. Janie loved to garden with Marshall, and enjoyed canning all of their fresh fruits and vegetables. They were known to always share their crops with friends and family. She enjoyed sewing and making things to sell at the flea markets until her later years when her macular degeneration prevented her from doing this. Janie was a charter member of Victory Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Ison was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Otto Tanksley and Mary Annie Biles, husband Marshall E. Ison, and brother Eli Otto Tanksley.

She is survived by her daughter Rita Hall (Terry), sons Gerald Ison and Dale Ison (Cindy), 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Janie is also survived by her sisters Doris Thompson (Gene), Margaret Harkness (James), and Ruth Thompson, brother Howard Tanksley, sister-in-law Shelia Tanksley, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ison’s family will receive friends on April 9, 2022 from 10 AM – 11 AM at Lakeland Funeral Home. A celebration of Mrs. Ison’s life will follow at 11 AM.
