James “Al” Alton Ready, 85, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday Dec. 31, 2017.
He passed peacefully with his wife of 62 years, Mary Sue (Byrd), by his side.
Al was born in Montgomery, Alabama on April 29, 1932 to the late Amos and Jewel Ready.
He moved to Lakeland when he was young, and became a lifelong resident. He graduated from Lakeland High School and attended Florida Southern College. Al also served in the U.S. Army for three years.
Throughout Al’s life he held various jobs, from postman, fireman, to accounting. He found his niche however in sales, which lead him to a successful career as an entrepreneur. In the late 1970’s, while working as a fireman, Al began a pool cleaning business out of his garage in Lakeland called Ready’s Pool Service.
Al was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He loved to garden, and was a self-taught landscaper with a green thumb. Because of his talent in the garden, he was known as the “tabebuia tree man.” Al loved to fish at his lake house in Haines City and to spend time with his family. He was always up for an adventure.
He leaves behind three children and their families; daughter, Denise Ready-Perry and her husband Patrick Plank of Lakeland, Florida; son James (Jim) Alton II, wife Kimberly Ready, their daughters Grace and Julie of Daphne, Alabama; son Chris Ready, wife Alison Ready, their children Jessalyn, Andrew, and Ella of Auburndale, Florida.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakeland, Florida on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donation to be made in Al’s memory to St. Paul Lutheran School, 4450 Harden Blvd, Lakeland, FL 33813 or to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road
Tavares, FL 32778.
