Jackie Mengel, daughter of Mary Alice Houghton Mengel and Jack Owen Mengel was born in Fort Sam Houston, Texas while her father was stationed there to serve in the United States Army Air Corps. They relocated to Lakeland, Florida where her parents operated Continental Travels. Jackie attended several schools for special needs people. Jackie loved to read, listen to music ( especially Lawrence Welk ) , play game-shows, ( especially Jeopardy ), learn about animals ( especially birds which she named in her many bird books ) , and go on outings with her companions. She was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her cousins, Bill (Sue), Connie, and Ken (Rhonda) Mengel who wish to thank her St. Paul pastors and all her caregivers, doctors, nurses, therapists, and guardian for all their care and kindness.
Jackie's memorial service will be at Lakeland Funeral Home chapel - 2125 Bartow Road - Tuesday, December 17 - 2 : 00 p.m.
Donations to St. Paul's Lutheran - Lakeland, or the National Wildlife Federation, or the Audubon Society would be appreciated.
