Harold L. Goheen Sr., of Lakeland, died peacefully in his sleep November 9, 2018 just shy of his 89th birthday. He was a devout Christian and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was born in Tampa to Roy and Ethel “Delores” Goheen on November 28, 1929. The family soon moved to Lakeland.
A graduate of Lakeland High School class of 1947, Harold was active duty in the U.S. Army 1948-1949 and then remained in the Army Reserves until 1955. The Army taught him accounting and that began his career at Kraft Foods, later to become KraftHeinz. He retired in November 1994.
Always a man of great faith, as a youth he was a member of Lakeland's First Baptist Church, now known as the Church at the Mall. Then a new church formed near his home and he became a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and sang with the choir. Eager to share his experience, he joined other young churches in the area and supported their upstart. He was a member of both Northside Baptist Church and Gibsonia Baptist Church, but Calvary remained his home.
Harold is survived by his second wife Sunny (Boardman) and his children by his late wife Avalene. They are Harold Goheen Jr., Daniel Goheen, Timothy Goheen, Mark Goheen and Darlene (Goheen) Lamar, plus grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren. They all live in Lakeland.
Visitation will be Wednesday November 14th from 5-7 pm at Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 S. Bartow Hwy Lakeland. Funeral will be Thursday November 15th at 11:00 am at the same location.
