Gertrude “Gertie” Sanders passed away peacefully on May 30, 2019. She was born in Kenilworth, New Jersey on March 3, 1927.
Gertie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold “Harry” Sanders, Sr. After 25 years they are now together again with the Lord.
Gertie is survived by her three children, Linda (Rick) Forni, Harold (Debbie) Sanders, Jr. and Barbara (Clarence) Baker; six grandchildren, Carol Steck, David (Karin) Heise, James (Jennifer) Goodman, Jr., Michael Baker, Heather Sanders, and Ashley (Tim) Keck; six great-grandchildren, Justin (Brooke) Steck, Danielle (Lowgen) Steck, Phillip Goodman, Nathan Keck, Tyra Goodman, and Amanda Keck; two great-great-grandchildren, Cayden and Wyatt Steck.
Gertie was a loving Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. She enjoyed crocheting, playing scrabble, cards, going to the dog track, and most of all watching the Buccaneers play on Sunday, “Go Bucs”. Gertie was also very creative; she baked numerous wedding cakes, pumpkin cakes, and bunny cakes. She was known for her phenomenal butter cookies and world famous almond icing.
Gertie starting working at MacGregor at a young age and that is where her love of sewing started. She made many beautiful wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses, and did sewing alterations for her friends. One her specialties was making Halloween Costumes.
Gertie was loved dearly by everyone and she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 4, 2019 at Lakeland Funeral Home. Visitation from
1:00- 2:00 PM, service at 2:00 PM.
