Gene M Shonkwiler

Gene M. Shonkwiler YNC, US Navy (ret) passed away at home in Auburndale, FL with his family by his side on July 3, 2021. Gene was born July 18, 1928 in Manteno, IL. He worked for the Polk County Tax Collector’s office for 21 years after retiring from a 24 year career in the Navy.

Survived by his wife, of 65 years, Mary Evelyn Shonkwiler; his proud sons Jerry and Richard Shonkwiler; cherished daughters-in-law Tina and Teresa Shonkwiler; grandchildren Susan, Ryan, Kyle and Trevor; great-grandchildren Kyler, Grayson, Maddox, Savanna, and Skyelyn.

A visitation will be held 11AM-12PM on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Lakeland Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 12PM. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Lakeland Memorial Garden.
