Edward R. Vidler, Sr., 91, of North Port, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at ManorCare of Sarasota.

He was born January 8, 1929 in Norwich, New York and was a longtime resident of Vero Beach, Florida, where he worked for the City of Vero Beach and Piper Aircraft. In his earlier career, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his military service, he first worked for Chenango and Unadilla Phone Companies, then later worked for Norwich Pharmacal Company in New York. In 1961 he married his surviving loving wife, Betty L. Vidler.

Edward is also survived by his son, Edward R. Vidler, Jr., (Anne Marie) and by his stepsons, David Cluff, (Denise), Richard Cluff, (Stephanie Bullard), Thomas Cluff, (Janice). He was the loving grandfather to his surviving grandchildren; Ryan Vidler, Kristin Biggerstaff, and Adam Vidler; great-grandchildren Devon Vidler, Jacob Vidler, Caleb Vidler, Madison Biggerstaff, Kaylee Vidler, Bentley Vidler, Grayson Vidler, and Payton Vidler; step-grandfather to Layla Cluff, Mitch Cluff, Melissa Marte, Michelle Sayles, Jennae Burdick, and Meagan White. He also has several surviving nieces, nephews, and step great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his mother, Helen (Todd) Vidler, father Leslie Vidler, and brothers, William Vidler, (Barbara), Hubert Vidler, (Joan), and step-grandson, Scott Cluff.

A private service will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations should be made directly to the Freedom Service Dogs of America at freedomservicedogs.org. Your donations will help in the rescue of shelter dogs and transform them into custom-trained, life-changing assistance dogs for veterans and other persons affected with brain injuries and disorders.
