Edna H. Ely, age 93, of Polk City, Florida passed away at home on Sunday, October 27, 2019, surrounded by loved ones. Edna was born in Hubbard Springs, VA. She was the daughter of Robert Harris and Victoria (Fortner) Harris.
Edna attended Thomas Walker High School in Ewing, VA. She married William O. Ely in Kokomo, IN on August 21, 1952. Together they had two children, William and Tim. Edna also had one stepson, Marlyn. Besides being a homemaker, she held several jobs throughout her life, including factory worker, playground assistant and citrus fruit packer. Edna was a proud, long-time member of The First Baptist Church of Polk City and was very active as a kitchen worker in the Outreach Program of the church. She enjoyed many forms of crafts and was known for making quilts for newborn family members as well as pillows and lap quilts for hospitalized children and the elderly.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband (Bill), stepson (Marlyn) and grandson (Tommy).
She is survived by her two sons, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 30, 2019 at Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 Bartow Rd, Lakeland, FL 33801. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM and will be presided over by Rev. Alan Moore assisted by Rev. Matt Ellis.
