Tribute

Carrie Vinson passed away peacefully on the morning of October 2, 2018 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her son Charles “Butch” Vinson, brother Underwood Coleman, and sister Opal Blalock. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Elwood Vinson, sons James and Joel Vinson, sister Lily Glasscock, grandsons Josh and Jacob Vinson, granddaughters Jessica Cuthbertson and Haili Alcorn, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Carrie and Elwood shared what can only be described as a storybook romance. They met while attending Combee Elementary School and have been together ever since. In high school, Elwood played football and Carrie was a cheerleader. They were married during their senior year.

Carrie worked for 22 years as an office secretary at Southwest Junior High. She was a longtime member of the Red Hat Society and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Carrie was an avid birdwatcher, gardener, and card player. She also enjoyed watching baseball; her favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays. She loved to travel and was particularly fond of the Smoky Mountains, Sanibel Island, and Jupiter Inlet.

Carrie did not wish for a large funeral, and there is no service planned at this time. Online condolences may be made at www.lakelandfuneralhome.com.
