Beverly "Joy" Hankins

Joy went to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 2nd at 8:35a.m. She was 86. She was a loving Mom, Grandma, aunt, sister and friend.

Joy was born on December 2, 1935 in Marion, Ohio to Roy and Alice Huston. She called several places home throughout her early life, but settled in Orlando, Florida and lived there for almost 60 years. She made a commitment to Christ in her 30’s and attended Pine Castle United Methodist Church for more than 40 years. She was very involved in the Singles Ministry, Bible studies, Sunday school, Friendship Club, women’s retreats, and traveled on a few mission trips with the church. She had fond memories of the trips to China and Israel that she took with her fellow church members and close friends.

Joy worked for 22 years at Lockheed Martin, which was known as Martin Marietta at the time. Her hobbies included creating both ceramic art and custom Christmas decorations. Most recently, she created a collage on a wooden cross to glorify the Risen Christ. The holidays were a special time in her household. Joy looked forward to entertaining her friends by cooking a meal and preparing small, personalized gifts for each guest. Throughout her life, Joy was an avid reader of both scripture and inspirational historical fiction novels. She could often be found on a Saturday morning searching for various treasures in local thrift stores or enjoying a morning brunch at Sharon’s Restaurant with her friends.

Joy is survived by her children Terry Hankins (Stephanie), Tim Hankins and Holly Seguin (Jeff), 2 nieces, a nephew, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Phyllis Rose Climo.

There will be a family graveside service on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 11:00a.m. in Lakeland, FL. We will plan a Celebration of Life service for Joy this summer at Pine Castle United Methodist Church in Orlando, FL.
