Lakeland FL – Betty Ann Simashkevich Dunlap, age 90, died peacefully at her home in Lakeland FL on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Betty was born June 27, 1930, on a farm in South Amherst Ohio, the 12th of 13 children born to Mary & Wasil Simashkevich. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles R. Dunlap of Lakeland FL, daughters Carol (Norm) Herendeen of Lakeland FL, Lois (Mike) Cox of Orlando FL, and son Douglas (Marsha) Dunlap of Tequesta FL, 6 grandchildren Seth & Eric (Melissa) Herendeen, Scott Cox, Corey & Kaley & Daniel Dunlap, 2 great grandchildren Liam Herendeen and Sophia Dunlap, 3 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren, her sister Helen Harris, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Betty and Charles lived a 70 year love story. After meeting at a basketball game in 1950, they married in 1953, and raised their family in Mentor and Kirtland Ohio. Betty was known and loved as an active school mom, Avon representative, and Real Estate agent. She loved children and was always helping others. Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, polkas, square dancing, horseshoe pitching and travel with her husband and family. Many years were spent living in both Florida and Ohio. Betty was proud to be the first Florida State female horseshoe champion in 1989. They moved to Lakeland FL in 2010, residing in the Foxwood Lake Estates.
Funeral services will be at Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens this Friday, visitation 1-2pm and gravesite service at 2pm.
