Winona Kirby, 96, of Lakeland, FL, formerly Omena, Traverse City, and Haslett, MI, died in her home on July 10, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Beulah (Juckett) Weissinger; her husband Gerald Kirby; a sister Clella Dickinson and brother Gerald Weissinger.
She attributed her longevity to growing up on a farm. She was a teacher at Traverse City Public High School until retiring to Lakeland, FL with her husband.
Winona’s passions included sewing for herself and others, cooking, throwing small parties, volunteering at local organizations and church, playing and listening to music. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lakeland, FL.
She is survived by her children, Gregory (Karen) Kirby and Jana (Raymond) Dell; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey Kirby, Steven (Lauren) Kirby, and Julienne Kirby (Alex White); 2 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; cousins, Roberta Van Kuiken, John (Carlene) Weissinger; sister-in-law, Phyllis Weissinger; nieces.
A private service will be held in Lansing, MI. Celebration of life memorial will be held at the Sunday School Chapel at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Aug 16. 2017, at 11 AM
