Roy J. Basel

Roy Jason Basel “Papa”, 76, of Lakeland, died January 7, 2018 at his home. He was born in Lakeland, FL July 19, 1941. Growing up in Lakeland, the Boys Club, swimming and basketball were his passions. He served in the US Navy from 1959-1962 where he fueled jets for the Blue Angels. After his service, he worked in the phosphate industry for 44years as a mechanic, welder and crane operator.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Lorene Basel; daughter Janet Holsted (Scott); son Joe Basel (Patti); grandsons Nick and Richard Basel, Jeremy and Kyle Holsted; great-granddaughter Morgan Basel; mother Lois Basel; brothers John, Danny, Kenny and Charles Basel. Roy is preceded in death by his father Joseph Basel.

A visitation will be held 6-8PM on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 at the Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 S. Bartow Rd, Lakeland, FL
