Lakeland—Robert Mitchell Scott, 90, passed away peacefully at his residence early on Wednesday morning, July 26, 2017. Robert was born February 8, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to John Eaglesham [Hansen] Scott and Ruth Laura [Mitchell] Scott. He moved with his family to Lakeland, Florida in 1979 from Midlothian, Illinois. Robert was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps.
After the Army, Robert was a truck driver, owned a dry cleaning service for many years, and later worked as a salesman. Robert served his community as a member of the School Board in Midlothian and as a member of Midlothian Methodist Church.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Velma Scott; sons, Michael [Edna Hensley] of Brevard, N. Carolina, Ken [Sandi] of Lakeland, Florida, Bill [Robin] of Petoskey, Michigan, and Johnny [Laura] of Seneca, S. Carolina; daughters, Nancy [John] Bonde of Titusville, Florida and Carol Scott [Rick Castor] of Lakeland, Florida; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his parents John Eaglesham [Hansen] Scott and Ruth Laura [Mitchell] Scott, Brother Charles John Scott, and his wife of 59 years and mother of their six children, Shirley Ann [Hutchins] Scott.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 10 a.m., at Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Rusty Trubey officiating.
